The Myles Standish State Forest is the largest publicly owned recreation area in southeastern Massachusetts. In the summer, offered programs include pondshore walks and cranberry bog explorations. There are over 15 miles of bicycle trails, 13 miles of hiking trails, and 35 miles of equestrian trails. This is a great place to visit in the summer.

The Cape Cod Canal is the widest sea-level canal in the world, and used by over 20,000 ships every year. Along either side of the canal, are the service roads, which are now used by Walkers, Runners and Bikers every single day. About 7 miles from end to end, the path is relatively level, and a great place to spend an afternoon. This particular entry point is 2.5 miles from the ocean and beach. Coolest place on earth, doesn't look like much, but is the best place to hang, Coldest beer, live music on weekend fishing, cabin rentals, great people, plain awesome, feels like the middle of nowhere, but just 1/2hr ride to humanization. must go there at least once (sure you'll come back after that)

If you dare, you can try staying on Room 5, Gakona Lodge has a "infamous" ghost that favors that room. He smokes a pipe and seems to enjoy playing tricks. There hasn't been the pipe smoke since a non-smoking policy was instituted in the lodge. Many people speculate that the ghost's name is John Paulsen, a customer and business partner many years ago. He has been a pleasant guardian of this lodge for many years and we continue to enjoy his company. (from their website)
