iPhone App Review - BoxOffice
BoxOffice, one of a few applications that check movie times, is one of my favorite iPhone applications. Not only is it incredibly useful and easy to use, but it looks great. The basic function of the application is to display all movies, or theaters within a radius of your exact location. Using the iPhone’s built in GPS function, it can automatically find your zip code, and give you a listing of every movie or theater within a range of up to 50 miles.
Once you have a listing of all your local movies or theaters, you can browse by your preference. Viewing theaters allows you to select a local theater and view all movies showing there. You can automatically map directions by tapping the address, or call the theater by tapping the phone number. Tapping on a movie’s showtime will allow you to place an online order if available through Fandango.
Viewing by Movies is my preferred way of finding something to see. Initially sorted by Title, you can sort the movies by their Rotten Tomatoe’s rating, which can help weed out the bad movies. Tapping on the movie name will bring you to it’s details with a small synopsis, and all theaters playing the movie, which is very useful for movies released in only a few theaters.
The application’s author has released some information of what to expect in the upcoming version, along with some screen shots. The upcoming features will make this application even more useful, and add some requested options:
You’ll be able to change the date you are looking for
You will also be able to sort by release date.
You will also be able to mark theaters as favorites,
Theaters marked as favorites will appear at the top of the list
Finally, the movie details screen will be greatly improved allowing you to view the movie’s MPAA rating, it’s run time, watch the Trailer and read reviews right from Rotten Tomato.
You can view some screen shots of the new features below. Expect them in iTunes as soon as Apple’s update process completes.
This is my favorite application so far, and is a must have for anyone who has an iPhone or iPod Touch.
