Trip Advisor’s Local Picks

Opening the application, it determines your location, and shows all restaurants around. Scrolling was not very smooth the first time I tried, but it did get better. Clicking on the restaurant name gives you it’s full name, address, phone number, price range, cuisines and a map. Unfortunately, you can not click on the phone number to initiate a call, you have to remember it. In addition, you can’t click on the map to bring up Google maps. I think both of these should be added in the next version as they are found through many of the other applications.

The search function is useful, but in my opinion is missing one major item, you can’t search by keyword. You can however search by distance, rating or price. I think it would have been much more useful if you had a keyword section to search for a particular type of food in the area, like Pizza or Steak.

There is a Reviews button, which on my phone just loaded up the Trip Advisor website, while giving me a notice that I was using an unsupported browser.

All in all, the application shows a lot of promise, and would be great if you were traveling in an unknown area. You’ll have to check out each restaurant to find a good place to go, but it’s a huge help having a listing with you.
