traffic.com - traffic reports and alerts

I discovered traffic.com today, thanks to Rand McNally. The website is very helpful. Right from the main page you can check area traffic, or put in a start and end destination, and see how the traffic would be on your route.

Even better, they offer RSS feeds for all major cities. This is huge. If you have a mobile phone, you can subscribe to any City you will be passing through, and get up to the minute updates on the traffic situation. Combine that with a good GPS device, and you can easily avoid any major traffic congestion.

They also provide things called Traffic Magnets. This allows you to customize a small widget to add to your own homepage. You can see a sample of one I signed up for to the left.

Overall, I think the website is an incredible tool for anyone planning a road trip, and you’d be a fool to not add it into your planning.
